A great event will attract visitors.  And it helps if the event is held in a great place too. Luleå has experiences for everyone. From delicious food and beautiful scenery, to grand experiences creating lifelong memories.

Do

Luleå is a city of contrasts. Here, you don't have to choose, you can experience everything from magical nights in the archipelago and days in the great outdoors, to historical and World Heritage sites, and the city pulse. Each season brings its own world of magic.

Sights to see, places to visit

Luleå offers great diversity in everything from flora and fauna to cultural heritage, with many beautiful places to visit. If you would like to see exotic animals, a visit to the Cape Wild wilderness centre will let you have both reindeer and elk eating from your hand.

If you have a thirst for culture, you can find it at the Norrbotten County Museum hosting contemporary, documentary and cultural history-themed exhibitions. Or the Hägnan Outdoor Museum, an open-air museum of cultural history, breathing life into the olden days. Here, group activities are organised all year round, and in summer, the old farm buildings are open and full of people wearing historical clothes, to bring you back in time.

Feel the beating wings of industrial history on a visit to the Selet mill Norrbotten's  largest industrial site and workplace at its peak in 1878. With heritage dating back to the 18th century, it is now a nature reserve and a popular place to visit, both for its scenic environment and for its cultural history. Or make a visit to the island of Junkön and its fabled windmill, more than 200 years old.

Last but not least, there is the World Heritage Site in Gammelstad's Church Town, with more than 400 cottages, assembled around the late medieval stone church. A stunning example of the church towns of northern Scandinavia, remarkable enough to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Outdoor activities

For those who wish to go beyond events, and experience the great outdoors as found in Luleå, there is an endless range of activities. Mountain biking trails, indoor and outdoor climbing, kayaking and long-distance skating through the Luleå archipelago, just to name a few.

When the ice off the coast of Luleå is thick enough, about 30 kilometres of roads are cleared, reaching a number of the islands in the archipelago. If you would like to experience the very distinctive feeling of crossing the ocean by car, an ice road trip may be something for you. Or you could go on a dogsled safari through the snow-covered landscape.

Eat

Luleå has a proud culinary heritage, shaped by amazing, local, natural ingredients. Here you will find everything from gastronomy stars to local pubs. A common thread for Luleå as a culinary city is creativity and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

High class gastronomy

The city is brimming with gastronomic skill and merit, with local delicacies giving you a world class culinary experience. Thanks to the fact that several head chefs from international Michelin star restaurants have chosen to settle down here in Luleå, we currently have five restaurants listed in the White Guide. The food, which will make your taste buds burst out into a jazz ballet dance, is paired with carefully selected wines – some of the city's sommeliers have been in charge of the beverages at royal weddings. Fine dining, but with the friendly spirit and warmth of Swedish Lapland.
